One game. That’s how close the Hapnot Collegiate senior Kings’ basketball team came to winning the recent Creighton Border Bash basketball tournament.

The Kings finished second in their second tournament of the season, losing to the MBCI Spartans in the tournament’s A-side final. Hapnot defeated the La Ronge Churchill Chargers and the Porcupine Plain Bears before falling in the final game.

The Creighton boys’ Kodiaks finished fourth in their home tourney. Creighton received a forfeit win after their first scheduled opponent, Frontier Collegiate, pulled out of the tournament.

The Kodiaks played their first game against the MBCI Spartans. MBCI thoroughly beat a young Kodiaks team, which managed to score a single basket in the first half.

The Kodiaks then lost to Porcupine Plain in the tournament’s third-place game, sewing up a fourth-place finish.

The Hector Thiboutot T-Wolves from Sandy Bay, Norway House’s HBOIERC Huskies and La Ronge Churchill each lost their first game, sending them to the B-side bracket. The T-Wolves, who lost to MBCI in the opening round, claimed the B-side title after beating both the Huskies and La Ronge Churchill.

Creighton and Hapnot athletics will take a break for the holiday season. High school basketball will restart in the
new year.
