The Hapnot Kweens Senior Volleyball team placed in Portage La Prairie over the first weekend of October in their first tournament of the season. The Kweens won the B side final three sets against Louis Riel from Winnipeg. They went through the round robin placing second in their pool. They played Carman, Notre Dame and Calvin Christian. The first play-off game was against Linden Christian from Winnipeg and lost in two sets. This result placed the Kweens one the B side championship. The next game was to land the Kweens into the finals. They played St. Norbert from Winnipeg and won in two sets. The finals for the B side championship was against Louis Riel. The scores were 24-26, 25-20 and 15-12. The Kweens came from a 5-12 deficit to win the match 15-12. Our setter, Celine Leclair, was declared MVP of that championship game. The Hapnot Kweens played with only six athletes due to the rest of the team playing in soccer zone playoffs. The athletes were Leclair, Caitlyn Davidson, Sam Breedom, Melanie Wallaker, Maggie Ryan and Danielle Lam. Coaches are Gord Halpin and Cathy Davidson. These six girls showed their talent, drive and determination Ð especially Wallaker, who was injured in the first set of the tournament yes she played through the whole tournament. After hosting the pre-zones at Hapnot Collegiate last weekend, the Kweens are now heading to Brandon at the end of the month. The zones Ð which determine which teams go to Provincials Ð this year will be in Thompson in November.
