Hapnot Collegiate’s soccer teams are coming back from provincials empty-handed.
The school’s boys’ and girls’ soccer teams took part in provincials last weekend at Garden Valley Collegiate in Winkler.
The girls’ team, which had won all 10 of their games this year and conceded only two goals, entered the tournament as the no. 7 seed. The Kweens won their first game Friday morning against the no. 9-ranked Dauphin Regional Clippers, but suffered their first loss of the season later that day to the no. 2 seed, Minnedosa Collegiate Chancellors.
The Kweens followed the loss with a convincing 2-0 win over the
no. 3-ranked host team, the Garden Valley Collegiate Zodiacs. The Kweens then lost a rematch with Dauphin 4-1 in Saturday afternoon’s consolation final.
The Kweens ended their tournament in 6th place.
The Kings came into their tournament as a wildcard. The boys were ranked no. 10, the lowest rank in the tournament.
Despite the low seed, the Kings won their first game 6-1 against the Birtle Collegiate Falcons, the
no. 8 seed.
The Kings lost their next two games, to no. 1 ranked Garden Valley and the no. 4–ranked MacGregor Collegiate Mustangs, 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. The Kings finished the tournament in 7th place.
No players from either the Kings or Kweens were named to the tournament’s all-star team.
