After a solid campaign and a convincing zone title, the season is over for the Hapnot Collegiate junior varsity Kweens volleyball team.
The team reached last weekend’s provincials after winning the Zone 11 championship tournament earlier this month in Flin Flon. The Kweens never lost a set on their way to the zone banner.
At provincials in Virden, the Kweens earned one win in the round robin, a 25-18, 25-17 victory over the Landmark Collegiate 96ers. Hapnot started strong in their game against the College Louis-Riel Voyageurs, nearly earning a three-set win. Despite a solid showing, Hapnot lost the game 23-25, 16-25, 13-15.
The Landmark game was the only win the Kweens got in round robin play, as Hapnot finished 1-3, ending up fourth in their pool and tied for sixth overall.
The finish was enough to get the Kweens into the playoff round, where they were set to face the hosts, the Virden Collegiate Institute Golden Bears. Virden went a perfect 4-0 through the round robin, meaning the Kweens would have their work cut out for them to advance.
When the dust settled, Hapnot sustained a 11-25, 15-25 loss.
The loss ended Hapnot’s junior varsity volleyball season. The junior varsity Kings finished third in their zone tournament earlier this month, missing provincial qualification.
The senior varsity Kweens and Kings will play for provincial titles this weekend in Winnipeg, the last tournament for Hapnot volleyball this year.
