Hapnot students proved on Tuesday that there is no such thing as too much fun. Students from grades 9-12 participated in the first house league event of the season, the Gym Blast. Each student and staff member in the school was placed on one of four teams at the beginning of the year; orange, green, blue or yellow. In the morning, students from grade 11 and 12 battled for points in a number of games, that included relay races, individual challenges and free-for-all wars. In the afternoon, it was the students in grade 9 and 10 who slugged it out for maximum points for their teams. Points were also given out for participation, listening skills and team spirit. Some of the game highlights were a giant game of dodge ball, chariot races, and the tug-o-war. Events were close throughout the day, and at the end of the events, only a handful of points separated the first place team from the last place team. In order to put one team ahead of the rest, the four-way tug-o-war was used. Teams participated in the event three times. The first heat was for the girls, while in the second heat, just the guys battled. In the third heat, the entire team grabbed the rope in order to put their team over the top. I wore my lucky orange shirt to the event, and wouldn't you know it, Team Orange won in the morning with the grade 11 & 12 students. In the afternoon, I wasn't so lucky, and Team Blue was victorious. The event brought in rave reviews from all of the students who participated.
