Badminton season is underway at Hapnot Collegiate. The team didn't waste any time getting their racquets out, as they began practicing the Monday following the Manitoba 'AAA' Basketball Championships on March 22. "We've been practicing four days a week," said coach Don Bodnarus. "We have a young team this year, with a lot of grade 9 and 10 students, and a few seniors. Many of the athletes returned from last year, and we are building off of that." This weekend, Hapnot will host a tournament in order to prepare for the Zone 11 Championships in Thompson on April 23 and 24. Teams confirmed for this weekend's action are MBCI from The Pas, Norway House and Cranberry Portage. Singles action will be held on Friday, with doubles beginning Saturday morning, followed by mixed doubles at 11 a.m. on Saturday. After badminton season, indoor practices will begin for track and field until the fields are dry enough to move outside. The annual Athletic Banquet will conclude the 2003-04 Hapnot athletics season in early to mid June.
