Three hundred and ninety eight competitors, 16 judges and hundreds of spectators would be overwhelming for most adults. But not for six young ladies from Flin Flon who took part in the 2008 Regional Stream Provincial Gymnastics Championship. The competition took place April 4-6 at the Lord Selkirk Comp School in Selkirk, MB. FlintyÕs Gymnasts competed in five different groups, which were divided between age and skill level, throughout the weekend. ÒOur girls have done as well as any other year,Ó said Flin Flon coach Sheena Reed. Reed says she was pleased to see the rural area represented on a larger scale than previous years. But she noticed there were more clubs with smaller groups. With 23 gymnastics clubs representing the province, Executive Director of the Manitoba Gymnastic Association Kathy Stoesz says she was pleased with the accommodations available. ÒIt was a very good facility with enough room for the spectators and all of the events,Ó says Stoesz. She praised the Selkirk Selects Gymnastics Club for taking on the task of organizing the event. ÒSelkirk did their very best to make it a good event for the gymnasts,Ó she said, adding that all competitors were given pizza, drinks and a goodie bag to take home. ÒThey were very generous with their awards...and overall it was done very well,Ó she said. The following FlintyÕs Gymnasts were able to attend the 2008 Regional Stream Provincial Gymnastic Championships: Talyah Harrison, Beginner 8 Sarah Morrison, Beginner 8 Danielle Labine, Intermediate 9 Tieryn Steele, Intermediate 11 Naomie Rye, Intermediate 11 Shannah Fisher, Advanced 11 The girls from Flin Flon have also been invited to attend Thompson TumblerÕs Mini Meet, which will be in Thompson on Sunday, April 27.
