Mackenzie Grove is heading to the Canada Winter Games.

The Flin Flon skier was named to Team Saskatchewan for the upcoming event, set to be held Feb. 15 to Mar. 3 in Red Deer.

Grove will be one of five female Saskatchewan skiers representing the province, joining Janice Grundahl and Grace Craig of Regina, Prince Albert’s Jessica Gill and Taylor Harrington from La Ronge.

Grove, a Hapnot Collegiate graduate and long-time member of the Flin Flon Ski Club, is currently attending the University of Alberta Augustana in Camrose, where she is a member of the school’s nordic skiing, indoor track and field, and cross-country running teams.

Two athletes from Flin Flon – Grove and hockey player Justin Lies – are slated to take part in the upcoming games, but neither will be representing the same team. Lies will play for Team Manitoba, while Grove will ski for Saskatchewan, the province where she has competed for most of her life.

Athletes from the Flin Flon Ski Club are affiliated with Cross Country Saskatchewan.
