Governments invest in Channing Beach

The Province of Manitoba is investing $4,330 to improve Channing Beach and Jones Square Park in Flin Flon. The funding is part of a broader investment in recreational infrastructure in several rural communities across Manitoba by provincial, federal and municipal governments. The announcement was made Monday by Manitoba Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation Ron Lemieux with federal and municipal officials. "Investments in Manitoba's recreational infrastructure are creating jobs, improving the quality of programs these facilities offer, and helping Manitobans live active healthy lives," said Minister Lemieux. "I'm pleased that...we are announcing improvements for a wide variety of projects that reach out to many communities." "This important investment will make the beach more attractive for both tourists and local residents alike," said Flin Flon MLA Jennissen. "I am proud to be part of a government committed to supporting rural and northern communities." The investment in Channing Beach and Jones Square Park will clear the area from undergrowth and trash and replace the playground equipment and dock. This year, the Government of Manitoba is investing $1.6 billion in infrastructure across the province. These investments are helping renew the province's roads, schools, health facilities, and water treatment facilities, while creating jobs and supporting economic growth. Jennissen noted his thanks and appreciation to federal and municipal governments for also providing funding for the Channing Beach project. Other Projects Channing Beach is one of nine recreational infrastructure projects in Manitoba to benefit from the federal, provincial and municipal partnership. The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, the Honourable Ron Lemieux, minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, Member of the Legislative Assembly for la Verendrye and Mayor Sam Katz, City of Winnipeg, announced funding for projects that will create jobs in Winnipeg and several rural Manitoba communities. "Improving recreational facilities is great for our communities and our economy. These investments, part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, will help stimulate the economy, enhance local facilities and services, and contribute to the health and quality of life of citizens across Manitoba," says Minister Toews. "Investments in Manitoba's recreational infrastructure are creating jobs, improving the quality of programs these facilities offer and helping Manitobans live active healthy lifestyles," said Minister Lemieux. "I'm pleased that....we are announcing improvements for a wide variety of projects that reach out to many communities." The total cost of the projects is $5,667,003. Funding of $783,916 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The Province is providing $2,154,880 and municipal governments are providing a total of $2,497,000. The projects announced range in scope from community centre redevelopment in Winnipeg to restoration of a park in Northern Manitoba to an arena renovations in several Manitoba communities. Channing Beach is one of nine communities to receive money.
