It was a soccer-filled weekend for the Kopper Kings and Kweens as they were in Neepawa this past weekend for a one-day tournament. The Kings and Kweens both played Neepawa and Swan River on Saturday. The Kings were scheduled to play Virden, but played Hamiota instead. The Kweens played Virden. For the Kweens, they went undefeated with scores of 8-0 over Virden, 4-0 over Neepawa and 4-1 over Swan River. The top Kween scorers for the weekend were Jesse Nygren with seven, Kara Diakow, in her first game as a Kween, scored three, Destiny Henry scored two, with singles by Caitlyn Davidson, Jenna Klause, Delaney McIntyre, and Rikki Crone. "The games were a good test for the team, and next up is Swan River this Saturday where we will play Swan River, Thompson and Birtle," said coach Don Kirkham. "No serious injuries, just the normal knocks, and all players are expected to be fit." For the Kings, it was a 2-1 weekend record. Starting off with Hamiota, the Kings lost 3-1 in penalty kicks after being down 1-0 in the first half. The second game for the Kings saw them take on Neepawa. Hapnot came out on top 2-1 after two extra times. Neepawa scored the first goal, but the Kings answered back with two more. And the third game had the Kings taking the cake with a 2-1 win over Swan River. The Kings ended second place overall for the tournament. "All in all, I'm happy with how things went," said Kings coach Steve Lytwyn. "There's still things they have to work on as a team, but things are coming together," he says. Next up, the Kings and Kweens will host the zones next weekend.
