The 16th Annual Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge has come and gone. It was another fantastic year with good fishing, good friends and a few new faces. The anticipation is over Ð 52 teams hit Lake Athapapuskow on July 30 and 31 to compete for the coveted Trout Challenge Trophy as well as the guaranteed first, second and third place cash prizes. 1st - Randy Boychuck and Daryl Furber (224.5 length, inches) - $3,500. 2nd - John Waterer and Bruce Murray (217.5) - $2,500. 3rd - Derek Danielson and Richard Danielson (215.5) - $2,000. 4th - Merv Suski and Jason Morran (213.5) - $780. 5th - John Wolters and Gary Rosvold (212) - $520. 6th - Jim Reich and David Minish (211.5) - $494. 7th - Bob Gummerson and Gord Keyes (210.5) - $416. 8th and 9th - Kerry Raddysh and Jim Churchill (210) - $364. 8th and 9th - Joe Hancock and Trevor Thurston (210) - $364. 10th - Martin Ouellet and Rob James (209) - $364. 11th - Russ Swain and Fern Eagle (208.5) - Free 2006 entry. In addition to the top 10, there were prizes for the largest fish caught on each day of the tournament, the greatest comeback on the second day, and numerous other prizes. Largest Fish Saturday - Merv Suski - (41.5) Largest Fish Sunday - Jim Reich - (34) Greatest Comeback - Todd and Jenn McCracken - With 85.5" more on Sunday than Saturday. Buddy Prize - James Murray - For inviting two new teams to our 2005 tournament. Merv Suski also picked up the Largest Overall Fish for the weekend and won a "Master Angler Team" jacket. Derek and Richard Danielson won the John Moodie Memorial Trophy this year, which is a trophy awarded annually to the highest placing Cranberry Portage team. Congratulations to David Murray for winning two round trip tickets from Flin Flon to Winnipeg - donated by Calm Air. Thank you for another great year! We can't wait to see everyone again next year.
