Even though the Bombers couldnÕt pull out a win in Sunday nightÕs game against the Humboldt Broncos, head coach and GM Mike Reagan says heÕs proud of his teamÕs effort. After being defeated 7-1 the night before, a day of rest did the Maroon and White well as they played a good game. The Bombers went down with a final score of 2-0, giving Humboldt the win. Although the Broncos won the first two games, Reagan says with the next two at home, in the Whitney Forum, the boys are sure to do better. ÒThere is a lot better crowdÓ at home he says, adding that there is a different atmosphere. ÒAnd I think we sent the message to Humboldt that itÕs not going to be as easy as they think,Ó says the confident coach. For the 150-some Flin Flon fans in the Uniplex Sunday night, there was certainly lots to cheer about as the Bombers came out with their A game for the majority of the game. ÒWe were a little flat in the first period, but we had a good talk and the guys stepped it up,Ó says Reagan. And even though the Bombers didnÕt walk away with a win on a score sheet, he says they got something a little different. ÒWe didnÕt win, but we got a moral victory. Humboldt can be beat and itÕs going to be a different story in Flin Flon,Ó he says. With a wide range in scores, from 7-1 and then down to 2-0, Reagan says the games themselves werenÕt that different from each other. ÒIt was 3-1Ó for the first game, he says, Òbut they got power play goals late. And anyone who watched knew it wasnÕt a 7-1 game. ÒAnd tonightÕs game there was a good effort in the second and third period. I think if we would have had the same effort we would have won last night.Ó With the Bombers coming out flat in the first period, it was the home team who scored the first goal of the game, which would be the only one for the majority of the game. Shawn Hunter, assisted by Scott Schroeder and Tanner Vandesype, made his way past Carsen Chubak with a goal just after the eight minute mark, making it 1-0. The Bombers were outshot in the first period as the Broncos fired off 18 shots to Chubak while Taylor Nelson only saw six come his way. The Bombers found themselves in the box three times as Matt Restoule, Barrett Penner and Dennis Kubat were all called on hooking. And the Broncos had Tory Allan in the bin for goaltender interference and Justin Stoski in for high sticking. Both Chubak and Nelson stood strong in the second period as the Bombers fired off another six shots, with hopes of a first goal. The second period remained scoreless. Flin Flon found themselves in the box another three times as Dustyn Clegg was in for boarding, Cameron MacKinnon for tripping and Penner for cross checking. Humboldt only had one penalty as Jordan Schindel was in for tripping. The third period saw no goals until late in the period when Reagan pulled Chubak, putting another player on the ice for the Bombers. But Humboldt made their way to the net making it 2-0 for the win with two seconds left on the clock. ÒWe had to do everything we can to score and tie it up,Ó says Reagan about pulling Chubak. Many people watching a game have a general feeling of how things are going to go. They may not be right, but they have a feeling. But the coach says he doesnÕt worry about the feeling before the game. ÒI donÕt think about it before the game,Ó he says. But after the game is another story. ÒI felt we came out with a good effort. I was disappointed in the first, not the second or the third. We definitely took it to them.Ó The Bombers are back in town for a game tonight and tomorrow night and Reagan says heÕs feeling pretty good about things. ÒIÕm excited... and feeling confident. The Whitney Forum gives us a little extra energy.Ó he says. And the Bombers are going to need that extra bit of energy and confidence as they need to win one, or both, of the games here in town to continue onto Game 5.
