Win the Hole-In-One contest in Whistler, B.C. and you're a millionaire. Of course it's not as easy as it sounds. As of Thursday, five people have managed to sink a ball in CFAR's million dollar Hole-In-One to advance. A playoff was done to decide a champ. Individuals could pay as much as $20 for 30 balls. Yesterday evening, one winner stood tall at the Phantom Lake Golf Club's driving range and will head to The Pas to compete against winners from there and Thompson. The winner of the three avoids competing in the provincials and advances to national competition. The other two battle it out in provincial competition to go to nationals. "It's been very steady and the weather is holding," said Maureen Kozar, CFAR's station manager and event coordinator. "There's been more turnout for the ladies and junior event." Derek Ginnell was one of the participants to end up on the leader board for closest to the pin. "It was good. It's definitely a tough green to hit," Derek said. "You have to look at the landscape. I hit a couple of good shots and was fortunate to get under three feet (from the hole)." Derek decided he was giving himself another chance as he didn't believe his good shot would stay on the board too long. "I'd like to increase my odds," he said. "I've done this every year and it's fun. They have lots of good prizes." All the money from the golf balls sold will go to the Tri-Service Club as the three groups use the money for community projects. Due to press time, final result wasn't available.
