It was an exciting finish to the Golden Girls 2005 tournament at the Uptown Curling rink on Wednesday. Ann Wiebe's rink trailed Geri Kostuchuk 4-1 after the fourth end, but came out victorious 6-5. It seem as though her rink might have been in trouble, but they didn't give up. "I don't know," responds Wiebe when asked what she thought the turning point of the game was. "When I think about it, in the last end, we were in big trouble there. I made two shots in a row and that's what I had to do. I made the shot, and then I put the guard on, so then it was difficult for her (Kostuchuk) to get in." During the fifth end, Wiebe's team scored two points to close the gap to a single point. By the seventh end, the game was tied at five. "You have to try and make every shot you possibly can, because everybody's really good," Kostuchuk says, when asked what was needed to be successful. "The games were tough, really tough, and everybody curled their darndest." Ann Wiebe's rink had already won the A side to advance to the provincials, therefore making the match between Irene Johnstone and Leona Lundgren irrelevant. Flin Flon is hosting the provincials, which take place from Feb. 13 to 16. "I'm looking forward to provincials because it's here this year," Wiebe says. "That's really special to be able to play in your own hometown."
