The gym at McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac has been taken over by the girls 14u Volleyball Team. Fourteen girls, coached by Doug Gawiak, have been practicing for the majority of the school year in hopes of bringing home a gold medal. This past April the team traveled to Brandon, MB to compete before heading to Winnipeg this month. ÒThey did really well,Ó says Gawiak, referring to the trip to Winnipeg. ÒThey won three out of four games, but lost the third game 15-14.Ó Similar to other sports and activities in the area, the girls donÕt have many teams to play against. ÒBut these girls can play with other teams,Ó in the form of competition, says Gawiak. ÒThey are playing teams who play eight or nine times, when weÕve played two.Ó Even though the girls havenÕt had much playing time, their coach reiterates that they have done very well. ÒAnd if we played the same amount of games, we would handle ourselves really well,Ó he says. The girls 14u team was formed this year and Gawiak says itÕs up in the air if it will continue next year or if it will move to 15u. It all depends on the interest, he says.
