The Phantom Lake Golf Course has a new golf pro. Curtis Lawrence has taken over the PLGC and although he is new to the job, he certainly isn't new to Flin Flon. Curtis was born and raised in Flin Flon and after leaving for a short while, he has come back, having earned a college degree in, as he puts it, "the business of golf". In Nipawin, Curtis was the assistant pro at the Evergreen Golf Club. He has also owned and operated his own golf club shop since 1995 and will be able to provide this additional service to the members. Curtis is a member of the Golf Club Maker's Association of America and is a certified club builder/fitter. He has taken over the position vacated by Kelly McLaren as the Head Professional/ General Manager of the PLGC. Kelly has headed out to Alberta to accept a new position in that province. Coming back for another year at the Phantom Lake Club is Brett Stephenson as the green's keeper and Sherri Radics is once again the food manager. Curtis has plans for a few changes, such as for the Men's Night, and with stock, and a new look for the pro shop. He has the pro shop completely computerized now with the Gencess program that is designed specifically for golf courses. Curtis will be able to tell the golfers not only how many rounds they have played but also how much they have spent on drinks and food. "I am very excited to be back home and am looking forward to the challenges of the job," said Curtis. "I hope to exceed people's expectations!" For any information on the PLGC please call 688-5555. Weather permitting, golf is expected to start Sunday, May 1.
