The Subway Slammers slow-pitch team is holding a fundraising drive this weekend to help send team members to the national slow-pitch championships this summer. The local slow-pitch team earned the right to represent Saskatchewan at the Nationals in Niagara Falls, July 28 - August 2, after capturing the provincial crown last year in a tournament held in Saskatoon. Since then, the team has been holding fundraising events throughout the winter, such as meat draws and a 50-50 draw. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 28, team members and their families are going to pool their resources to hold a large garage sale at 415 Princess Blvd., getting underway at 9 a.m. Chad Trumbley, the player-coach for the Subway Slammers, said their team is very appreciative for all the support the public has shown them in their fundraising efforts. "We're going to give it out best shot at the Nationals," said Chad. There will be over 70 teams representing every province at Niagara, competing in a variety of divisions such as men's, women's, seniors, youth and mixed. The Subway Slammers will competing in the mixed category and Chad said their team is hoping for a top five finish.
