With hopes of taking the cake in five games, the Bombers traveled to Melfort along with 300 fans from Flin Flon Saturday. Although the Bombers were unable to take the win, those who made their way to the Northern Lights Palace let everyone know they were there. It was a frustrating loss for the Bombers as the home team beat them up 3-1 for the win. Head coach and GM Mike Reagan had Calvin Bartel back in the net, which was his last of the Semi-Final series. The Bombers outshot the Mustangs 35-23, but were still unable to walk away with a win, which would have won them the series with five games. The first period was scoreless, but had a few penalties for each team as the Mustangs had Riley Clark and Cam Oliphant for holding, Matt Hill and Jason Walker for high sticking. Flin Flon fans watched as Matt Dyck was put in the bin for Unsportsmanlike conduct, David Linsley for goaltender interference and Cameron MacKinnon for interference The scoring really got going in the second period as the home ÔStangs opened fire first getting past Bartel just nearly two minutes after the puck dropped, making it 1-0. And before the announcement of the goal was over, the Mustangs did it again as Nick Kalnicki made it 2-0. In the middle of the period Reid MacLeod broke Ilia EjovÕs shutout after being fed by Dennis Kubat and Michael Young on a power play. Flin Flon was in the penalty box three times for the second period as Dominic Martel was sent for interference only 36 seconds in while Kubat was given two minutes for interference as well and Matt Dyck was called on goaltender inference. Melfort had Kyle Fraser in the bin for tripping and it was another goaltender interference call for Kalnicki. Bartel, after being down on the ice twice during the game, faced seven shots from the Mustangs and the Bombers fired off 13 to Ejov. With the score 2-1 for the home team, the Bombers and Mustangs were back on the ice for the third period. Both the Bombers and the fans wanted to see the Maroon and White win it in Saturday nightÕs game, but the team couldnÕt pull out a win as the Mustangs scored their final goal of the game, the series and the season. After the game assistant coach Clayton Quinn, along with the Bombers, was disappointed with the way things went. ÒIt was a good game, but a bad time goal and itÕs tough when that happens,Ó he says. Although playing SundayÕs game would mean a chance to win the series at home, Quinn says they wanted to end things early. ÒWe did not want to have to play tomorrow. WeÕre still up, which is good, but itÕs frustrating,Ó he says. After the MustangÕs third goal, Quinn says it took the win out of their sail. ÒIt shouldnÕt have happened and it was not a good time goal by us to let it in.Ó Quinn adds that some mistakes were made during the game. ÒSome guys werenÕt giving it their all and making mistakes at the wrong time,Ó says the assistant coach. ÒWe didnÕt shoot the puck like we wanted to.Ó But going into SundayÕs game, which would be the teamÕs final game as they won it 2-0, Quinn says they were going into the game confident. ÒWe have to win at home. ItÕs the place to win,Ó he says.
