Ryan Hanson was closest to the pin Sunday night in CFAR 590's Million Dollar Hole in One's finals. The top five finalists, Brad Burke, Tim Smith, Evynn Labarre, Kennan Kennedy and Hanson, squared off for bragging rights in Flin Flon as well as a chance in the Northern finals. Hanson came in at 18'12" from the hole Ð leaving him the closest for the Flin Flon competitors. The Million Dollar Hole in One started on Tuesday and allowed golfers to come out as often as they wished to hit a few balls and help raise a few dollars for the TriService Club Ð which benefits the Rotary Club of Flin Flon, the Flin Flon Lion's Club and the Kinsmen. Roughly $6,400 was raised for the TriService Club, which will be put towards the Rotary Park this year. The Hole in One contest sold 720 buckets of balls in the six days. At the end of each day, the leader board held the names of the top 10 golfers. Over the course of six days, those top 60 golfers made up the Semi Finalists for Sunday's playoffs. Sunday night, those top golfers tried their best to get into the top five Ð which was a close race. A crowd formed as golfers had three chances to make their shot. This year, Burke was the only golfer to qualify on the leader board all six days Ð giving him a total of 18 shots to try for the hole in one. "I thought it was really fabulous," said CFAR 590's Dianne O'Brien. "I was surprised (that even with bad weather...people came out." This was O'Brien's first year being a part of the show 100 per cent and she says she "totally enjoyed it." "It was worth it for TriService," she says. The money raised through this year's event will go towards the Rotary Wheel. "It's one more thing people from Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach should be proud of." O'Brien says there were some great prizes again this year, which helped to bring out a few more golfers Ð and even non-golfers. Those who took part in the event had the opportunity to win flights, golf packages, a barbecue and gift certificates, plus much more.
