Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Remembering a great father, friend and athlete, the Jason Morran Memorial Tournament brought out the fun side of slo pitch this past weekend. Teams played in a round-robin fashion at Centoba Park with three games apiece over the course of two days. Generally, tournaments come with strict rules of no jewelry, a requirement to watch the commitment line and rulings from the umpire that are final. The Jason Morran Memorial is a little less serious as striking out, or fouling, comes with different consequences. Ladies who struck out were to strap themselves into a life jacket, goggles and flippers _ safety first! For the men, it was a one-piece women's bathing suit with a straw sun hat to match. Between the bathing suits and life jackets making their way around the bases, it was easy to tell the Jason Morran Memorial Tournament was another success. Winners of each game were entered into a draw. At the end of the tournament on Saturday, co-organizer Darren Romo picked a team name from a hat as the winners of the Jason Morran Memorial Tournament. Romo picked the Finger Blasters _ which meant a few humourous remarks of the draw being rigged since that is Romo's team. All jokes aside, the winning team posed for a picture with the trophy as well as Morran's son, Shaun Morran. Morran suddenly passed away in the summer of 2007 at the age of 36. Money raised through the tournament goes toward the Jason Morran Memorial Fund. In the past, the Fund has helped organizations like the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association.
