The snip of the scissors officially opened a three-year long work in progress. The green sod, complimented by a new chain link fence, sits behind the new sign for the Creighton Community Soccer Field. To officially break in the field, the Town of CreightonÕs Recreation Director, Channa Senyk, organized a Celebrity Soccer game, where workers from local businesses teamed up to take on the Phantom Lake Fury. The fun game, which doesnÕt need to have a score repeated, showed the skill of some and the sense of humour of others. Although breaking in the field was a fun day, Senyk says a lot of work has been put into the field. ÒI came in the second part of the sodding (process),Ó she says, adding that prior to that, the former swamp was filled, sodded and given an extension to make the field regulation size. Since Senyk has been involved with the project, the sodding has been completed as well as a fence and the sign. But Senyk wasnÕt taking all of the credit. ÒCindy (Davis) started it and she put a lot of work into the field,Ó she says. ÒIt looks really good,Ó says Senyk. The Creighton Community Soccer Field, which is now regulation size, is finished for now. ÒWeÕre not planning anything else right now that would have to be built,Ó says the Recreation Director. ÒItÕs just things that would have to be brought in, like porta potties.Ó But of course many projects can never be completely finished and Senyk says there are ideas floating around for additions. Talk of putting a track around the field has surfaced. ÒIt all depends,Ó says Senyk, about putting in a track. ÒThe school would love a track...but there isnÕt enough room on one side and they would like a four-man track, but I donÕt think a four-man would fit on there.Ó As the track is just an idea, Senyk says some thought has been put into it, but there would have to be changes made. ÒThis is something that Cindy mentioned at the start, but we have other ideas as well,Ó she says, adding that it also comes down to the final word of her rec board. All in all, for right now, Senyk says itÕs Òa nice family rec area.Ó
