Taylor Thiessen remembers well what it was like coming into the Whitney Forum as an opponent.

“I played three-and- a-half seasons for the Nipawin Hawks and there was never an easy game played in the Whitney Forum,” Thiessen said. “The fans in Flin Flon are extremely passionate and the atmosphere is indescribable to someone who hasn’t experienced it. Everyone I talk to that hasn’t been to the Whitney Forum still can’t comprehend the moose leg stories I tell.”

In his 20-year-old season, 2009-10, the standout defenceman was acquired by the Flin Flon Bombers. He got to experience the Whitney faithful’s enthusiasm from a different point of view.

“Being on the receiving end of that passion once I wore the Bombers jersey will stick with me forever,” Thiessen said. “The people of Flin Flon and the culture of the Bombers was what I enjoyed most. That and the amazing billet family, the Mansells, that made me part of their family and I still keep in touch with.”

In his lone season in Flin Flon, the blueliner used his mix of physical and skilled play to help the Bombers finish first in the Itech Division in the regular season. They fell in the division semifinals.

Thiessen now lives in Tisdale, Sask. He is proud to still have a connection to northern Manitoba and Flin Flon as he is a geologist for Hudbay at the Lalor mine near Snow Lake.

Thiessen and his fiancé Bailey Brown are slated to be married in April in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
