According to the supervisor, the Joe Brain Children's Petting Zoo has seen more people this season than before. Anita Proctor says it's been a great start. "Right now it's just excellent. We've got the kids coming in and then there have been tons of tourists so far, too," she says. And she says "on an average day I'd say we're seeing anywhere from about 50 people." "Although the other day was even more," she says. "We had almost 100 people throughout the day." Proctor says, "You can't walk around without seeing people. There is always someone here." The zoo is free for everyone, but there is a donation box for those who are interested. "We use the donation money for things like animal food and medicine for the pets when they need it," says the supervisor. The petting zoo has more then 20 animals this summer. "We would love to be able to have a pig, but we haven't gotten there yet," says Proctor. "We have nine orphan lambs and goats, two hens, two geese, a rooster and a chick. And we have three miniature horses and donkeys, and then we have the two new alpaca sheep also," she says. "And she adds "I can't forget about the bunnies. They are always a big hit for the kids." "The zoo is just a fun place for the kids to go," says Proctor. The zoo not only allows the children to pet the animals, but Proctor says "they are also able to feed the animals." And she says "that's always exciting for them (the kids)." The zoo is open from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. seven days a week.
