Getting the Shayne Pearson Memorial Bursary was the one Matt Kritzer really wanted. "I was really honoured to get that," the Hapnot Collegiate graduate said. "I was hoping one of us guys would win it." Matt was referring to his friends who played hockey with Shayne. The value of the bursary doesn't carry as much meaning as being chosen. "Even if it was zero dollars, it would be great to win it," he said. Though he won't be attending university next year, Matt for now has his mind set on an engineering career. To fulfill that, he hopes to attend the University of Waterloo. "They have a good engineering program and it's a good school," he said. Lisa Smale, Shayne's mother, was pretty excited upon hearing the news that Matt was one of the recipients. "He's just a super guy," Smale said. The main criteria for the bursary is that the student had to have 75 per cent or higher academically, an outgoing personality, community involvement, leadership as well as being sports minded. Matt congratulated Camilla MacFarlane, the other recipient. "It was good to see a girl win it Ð she deserved it," he said. When her name was announced, Camilla said it was really unexpected. "Because I'm not really that involved with sports," said Camilla, who is happy to win it. Camilla intends to go to the University of Saskatchewan to study commerce. Smale told The Reminder that she wants to meet Camilla and the graduate has made attempts to contact her.
