Kelly Carrington Staff Writer A simple road hockey game has turned into an annual hockey tournament for current and former Flin Flonners. What started out as a high school road hockey game has now become the Boxing Day Cup. 2012 marked the 14th year for the event as roughly 15 guys picked up their sticks and took it to the street. Teams are selected the proper road hockey way, as everyone throws their stick in the middle and two captains take turns picking them out. Whoever picks your stick is your team captain. A best-of-seven series then takes place, with games held on Norma Avenue. Teams are mixed and matched so there is no determined winner. The teams are made up of those still living in Flin Flon and those traveling home for the Christmas holiday. 'It started as a bunch from high school just playing road hockey,' said Tanner Brough. Now, Brough says it's a chance for old friends to have a beer and spend the day together. 'It's just something to run into each other and do for fun,'he said. Some of the players travel back home from Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and other destinations.
