While the Flin Flon Bombers turned a corner earlier this season to become the SJHL's top team heading into the Christmas holidays, the break seems to have them all shook up. The Yorkton Terriers handed the visiting Bombers their fourth straight loss Wednesday night, beating the Maroon and White 3-2. Matt Weninger was in net for Flin Flon and while he was unstoppable for the majority of the first period, the home team was able to get one past him last to start the scoring. The second period had the Bombers on top of their game as Mike Rey scored a power play goal, with help from Alex Lamontagne and Taylor Thiessen, 9:49 in. With the game tied at 1-1, the Terriers were able to get their second goal of the night just minutes later as Jordan Menke made his way past Weninger. And earning their final goal the night, the Terriers found the back of the net a third time with a late goal in the second period. The Bombers didn't give up as they came back in the third period and scored their second goal with less than a minute on the clock Ð but they were unable to get past Devin Peters to tie things up. The Bombers fired off 42 opportunities while the Terriers had 33 on Weninger. The last time the Bombers and Terriers faced off, back in November, the Bombers came out with a 4-1 win. The Terriers were looking for their revenge Wednesday night Ð and earned it. Leaving Yorkton Wednesday night, the Bombers remained in first place in the Bauer Conference with 55 points while the Terriers sat in fourth place in the Sherwood Conference with 41 points. A night earlier, the Bombers were in Melville to take on the Millionaires, but didn't have much success as the home team doubled up on them 4-2. With a two-game losing streak on their tails, the Bombers hoped they could get their act together and earn two points over the Millionaires. But the home team had other plans as they doubled up on the Maroon and White 4-2 for the win. Though the Bombers started the scoring off early in the first period with a goal from Andrew Johnston (Mike Rey, Michael Young), the Millionaires were able to find their feet and earn two goals by the end of the first 20 minutes of play. Matt Weninger called between the pipes home, but he was unable to stop four of Melville's 30 shots on him. Going into the second period, the Bombers were down 2-1 and looking to tie things up. Local product Ryan Fox was just the player to do it as he accepted a pass from Tanner Korchinski and Brennan Cox on a power play to make it 2-2. That score didn't last too long, however, as the Mills scored their third goal of the game with less than four minutes left in the period. By the end of the third period, the Bombers had fired off 44 shots on the Millionaires while Weninger saw the puck 30 times. The third period gave the home team their final chance to widen their lead as they put up their fourth goal of the night. The Flin Flon Bombers play host to the Melville Millionaires Saturday night at the Whitney Forum as they try to re-claim their game and avenge their loss against the Mils Tuesday night.
