Hockey is still an important part of life for former Flin Flon Bomber Tyler Stinton.

Stinton and his wife Carrie live in Flin Flon with their children Wyatt, 9, and Walker, 5. Both sons play hockey and the couple are active in the Flin Flon Minor Hockey Association. Stinton coaches the Atom AA Peds Threads Bombers.

“I love watching my children play and enjoy the time I get to spend with them at the rink,” said Stinton, a journeyman carpenter at Hudbay.

Stinton has coached in Flin Flon for six years. Before he had children, he coached locally and in his hometown of Brandon.

In addition to coaching, Stinton and his wife are involved in other roles with the minor hockey association. Carrie is in her fourth year as the organization’s volunteer coordinator. Tyler is serving as the coach coordinator for a second year.

“I ensure that all volunteer coaches have their certification and also sit on the coach selection committee for our Rep teams,” he said.

In addition to their work with the minor hockey association, the Stintons support the Bombers as a billet family. Flin Flon assistant captain Kristian St. Onge currently lives with the family.

Stinton was the Bombers’ rookie of the year in 2002-03. The next season he was traded to Dauphin of the MJHL at the trade deadline.

“I enjoyed playing in front of a great crowd every night,” Stinton said of his time with the Bombers. “The community was so great and everyone was very welcoming. I also had great billet parents that made me feel at home.”
