Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Former Flin Flon Bombers defenceman Michael Young recently attended the Philadelphia Flyers rookie camp. The Calgary native showcased his skill last month during the NHL team's six-day training camp. Young suited up against Flyer prospects, including 2011 first round pick Sean Coultier and the recently acquired Brayden Schenn. "Being around such a group of players and being able to play with them and see how I fit at their level really helped," Young said through e-mail on the Bombers website. The rookie camp ended with an inter-squad game. 'Totally prepared' "The camp was fairly difficult, we had workouts every morning and practices, but I feel I was totally prepared and really enjoyed every bit of my experience," he said. "I learnt a lot of things from the camp, but the main thing was how I have to work on the little details and fine tune every aspect of my game." Following his seasons with the Bombers, Young accepted a scholarship to the University of Nebraska at Omaha Ð where he put up 14 points (three goals and 11 assists) and helped the Mavericks to a NCAA Tournament berth and a final national ranking of 14th. With a bright future ahead of him, Young says he knows what he has to do to make the jump to the next level in his career. "Going into next year's camp I need to be in better shape. I'm in good shape, but can always be a little better," he said. Young put up 125 points Ð 36 goals and 89 assistsÊin 154 games over three seasons with the Maroon and White.
