Kelly Carrington Staff Writer There were mixed emotions in Flin Flon over the weekend as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of NHL playoffs. It was the talk of the town_ with some happy, others not so much. In six games, the Flyers _ a popular team locally given their past Flin Flon connections _ took the series 4-2 for the win. In other series, the L.A. Kings took out the Vancouver Canucks 4-1; the St. Louis Blues dominated the San Jose Sharks 4-1; and the Nashville Predators came out on top 4-1 over the Detroit Red Wings. The Chicago Blackhawks were down 3-2 against the Phoenix Coyotes with game four taking place Monday night _ after The Reminder went to press. It was the same story for the Ottawa Senators and the New York Rangers as the Sens were up 3-2. Deadlocked In Boston, the series between the Bruins and the Washington Capitals was deadlocked at three games apiece. Game 7 is scheduled for tonight in Boston. The New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers, meanwhile, headed into Game 6 last night with the Panthers up 3-2. As of press time, four of the teams moving onto the second round were known: the Flyers, Predators, Blues and Kings.
