The first round of voting for the Flin Flon Skate Park, through the Aviva Community Fund, started last week. As of Thursday morning, Flin Flon's project had generated over 1,400 votes. But residents are still being urged to continue voting and to spread the word to nonvoters. The Aviva Community Fund will donate a total of $1,000,000 to a variety of projects across the country Ð based on the number of votes received. Flin Flon is among roughly 420 projects in the same category; Large $100,000-500,000. The proposed skateboard park, which would give beginner and more advanced skaters a chance to hone their skills, earmarks roughly $300,000. The City of Flin Flon says while there are high hopes for the Aviva Community Fund project, the skate park will go ahead either way. Without the help of voters, the skate park will then be paid for through fundraising and grants. Mike Dubreuil, the Parks and Recreation Manager for the City, says with help from this program, would limit the amount of money from local pockets. Voting is available for the first round until November 5. Those who register are given 10 votes. Dubreuil says he hopes everyone uses their votes for Flin Flon. One vote per day, for 10 days, could help push Flin Flon over the top for a chance at the money. Visit http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf7605 to vote for Flin Flon's future skate park. As a reminder, those voting have until November 5 at 11 a.m. Maintoba time.
