Like Emilio Estevez said in The Mighty Ducks, "Hockey should be fun." That's what Mike Reagan, instructor of Flin Flon's Xtreme Hockey School, is hoping. "This year sounds like it will be a good camp," he says. "It will be fun for instructors and kids." He feels this way because there will be approximately 150 players registered. "Having bigger groups, it's entertaining for kids," says Reagan. "We can do more and the enthusiasm Ð the kids feed off it." This season's camp has 31 registered for juniors aged six to nine, 27 for intermediates aged 10 to 12, 11 for seniors aged 13 to 15 and 20 to 30 for conditioning players aged 15 and up. Reagan is very happy with his numbers and says it might be the best year since the second year of the school. While there are local players participating, there are also players coming from Thompson, The Pas, Calgary, and other areas. "Definitely excited," says Reagan, about the upcoming school which starts today. He hopes that the increase in kids between the ages of six to 12 is an indication of the sport growing back to where it was. "It's good to see a lot of youngsters and the numbers go up where it should be," an enthused Reagan says. When talking about the kids, he emphasized the importance of encouraging them to have fun, teaching skills and how to play the game and most importantly, to feel good about themselves. "There has been lots of emphasis pushed on young players about winning," he says. He wants to change that by providing the kids with a fun and enjoyable time.8/22/2005
