holiday tradition in
Flin Flon.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Shayne Pearson Memorial Boot Hockey Tournament, and organizers hope to see the same great turnout as in years past.

Kyle McKee, a friend of Pearson’s, says the turnout has been strong in years past with more than 20 teams in some years.

This year, he hopes to see the same commitment for the Dec. 27 tournament.

Games will be played at the Creekside bunk with boots rather than skates.

Teams are encouraged to register through the Shayne Pearson Memorial Boot Hockey Tournament Facebook page or its website at www.spmbht.com.

The website will feature an updated schedule and pool. Information will also be available on Twitter with tweets being directed to @SPMBHT.

Players of all ages are welcome to participate in the tournament, though McKee says the youngest participants typically range around 13 years old.

“But if children would like to play, they’re totally welcome,” he said.

Players each pay a minimal $10 fee to enter the tournament, with funds going toward the Shayne Pearson Memorial Bursary.

McKee says without the support of the community, neither the tournament nor the bursary would be possible.
