Flin Flon won’t have a perfect season in the Greenstone Hockey League, but it looks like they’ll come pretty darn close.
The club side suffered its first loss of the season Dec. 7 in a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Frontier Collegiate.
The team didn’t let the first defeat of the year keep them down, however. Spurred on by the loss, Flin Flon thrashed Frontier 9-3 four days later.
Flin Flon is still on top of the league standings with a 6-1 record, good for 12 points.
Sandy Bay is breathing down their necks in second place with a 5-2 record and 10 points. Sandy Bay’s record was bolstered with two wins against Deschambault Lake, including a 3-0 triumph on Dec. 7 and a 6-5 victory on Dec. 11.
Deschambault currently sits in third with seven points and a 3-3-1 record.
Three teams are stuck in a logjam for fourth place in the high school league. Creighton and Montreal Lake are currently 2-2, while Frontier is 2-4. All three teams have four points.
Pelican Narrows sits at the bottom of the standings with a 1-4-1 record and three points.
Deschambault Lake will head to Montreal Lake for a pair of games on Dec. 18. The teams will then take a holiday break before hitting the ice again in the New Year.
