The new Flin Flon Skatepark will host this year's Northern Manitoba Skateboard and BMX Championships on June 8. This will mark the 10th year for the competition in the Nor-Man region to promote and encourage the sports. Most of the previous competitions have taken place at the Kelsey Recreation Skatepark in The Pas, however as more venues have been built throughout the Region, we have rotated the location of our competition throughout Nor-Man. We plan to have the 2014 event in The Pas, 2015 in Thompson, 2016 in Opaskwayak and continue the rotation. The event is cost-free and family friendly. We invite spectators to come and cheer on their children, or just come out and enjoy the show. The Flin Flon Trout Festival has coordinated a Battle of the Bands to take place after the competition. There will be athletes and judges travelling in from Winnipeg, Thompson, The Pas and OCN. We are fortunate to have many local, provincial and national partners supplying prizes for the competitors, as well as the traditional product toss that occurs at the end of the competition. For both skateboarding and bmx, there will be three age categories: 12 and under, 13-17, and 18-plus. All ages and skill levels are welcome to enter.
