The Flin Flon Pee Wee Mustangs finished third after losing 7-3 to the eventual second place Dryden Jr. Trappers on Sunday afternoon. A good crowd was on hand at Centoba Park to support both teams as they chased the coveted second spot in the Manitoba Fastball Provincials. "We were hoping to go to Westerns. We had to finish (in the top two) and unfortunately we finished third," said said Mustangs coach Bruce Galay. "But that's fine. "We improved a lot and the kids are happy and we played hard," he added. "It was a good game. The boys played really well. They came to play and I'm proud of them." Galay's team was in tough against the Dryden Jr. Trappers, who won 7-3 and earn the coveted second spot and a match against Peguis. "They were well coached, very good positional, good pitching, good catching, good defense, good hitting team," Galay said. Things started well for the host team as they took a 2-0 lead then escaped a bases loaded situation, giving up just a single run heading into the top of the third inning. Things tailed off in the middle innings when the umpire questioned Flin Flon pitcher Tyson Kinaschuk's delivery. That prompted his coach to approach the umpire. The unexpected incident caused Tyson's control to be shaky at times. "The pitching was great," Galay said. "We got young Tyson there Ð the kid's a hell of a pitcher. He carried us a long way." As the offense continued for the Trappers, it dried up for the Mustangs who only managed one more run. Despite the shift in the game, Galay didn't point fingers. "Nothing really went wrong," he added. "We got a few bad breaks, but that's ball. You can't complain about that." The loss means that Manitoba will be represented at the Pee Wee Western Canadian Championship in Calahoo, Alberta by Peguis and Dryden. Other provincial results are as follows: For the Mites, the Flin Flon Mustangs won gold as they defeated the Peguis Braves 10-1 and 13-2. The Squirts were also won by a Flin Flon team as the Mustangs placed first while Peguis finished second and the Flin Flon Bulldogs earned third.
