Flin Flon novice hockey teams hitting ice for Mel Pearson tourney

The Whitney Forum will be a busy place this weekend with 12 novice teams competing for top spot in the 15th annual Mel Pearson Memorial Tournament.

The Whitney Forum will be a busy place this weekend with 12 novice teams competing for top spot in the 15th annual Mel Pearson Memorial Tournament.

Representing Flin Flon will be the Reliance Rhinos, the Firemen, the Oldtimers, and the McKeen’s Trucking teams.

They will welcome to the ice The Pas Huskies Red and White, the OCN Blues, Thompson Bruins, Jets and Leafs, and the Swan River Stampeders.

The 13-team tournament is the biggest scheduled for Flin Flon this year.

Games get underway today at the Whitney Forum between the Reliance Rhinos, of Flin Flon, and The Pas Huskies White.

Teams will alternate between the Whitney Forum and the Creighton Sportex with the finals scheduled for Sunday at the Whitney Forum.

Be sure to stop in and cheer for the local hockey players as they vie for top spot.

In Pool A, the Rhinos and Firemen will be up against The Pas Huskies White, the OCN Blues, the Thompson Bruins and the Thompson Leafs.

In Pool B, McKeen’s Trucking and the Oldtimers will be up against The Pas Huskies Red, the Thompson Jets, the Thompson Canadians and the Swan River Stampeders.

The Norway House North Stars were scheduled to play but backed out of the tournament Wednesday evening.
