One month into the season, it’s Flin Flon sitting pretty at the top of the Greenstone Hockey League.
Flin Flon is the only undefeated team in the league, having won its first five games, earning 10 points.
The team’s latest win came at the Creighton Sportex on Nov. 30, when Flin Flon took down cross-border rivals Creighton 14-4.
Upstarts Deschambault Lake, who overcame a slow start and won three straight games, take up the league’s second-place spot. The team has seven points and currently sits at 3-1-1 in the standings.
In a hard-fought game played Nov. 30 at the team’s home rink, Deschambault Lake defeated Pelican Narrows 2-1.
Sandy Bay sits in third place with a 3-2 record and six points, followed by Montreal Lake and Creighton with four points each. Pelican Narrows (1-3-1) sits in sixth with three points, while Cranberry Portage’s Frontier Collegiate team has been held pointless in four games.
Deschambault Lake invites Sandy Bay tonight with the league’s second-place spot on the line, while Flin Flon will try to extend its winning streak to six against Frontier at the Creighton Sportex. Seven games are scheduled for Dec. 11, including four games at the Sportex and three in Deschambault Lake.
