Though unlikely, it's possible that minor hockey could become extinct in Flin Flon. The reason being, according to Greg Phair, acting president for Flin Flon Minor Hockey, is the lack of volunteer help. "If the problem isn't corrected, there will be no minor hockey," Phair said. "We're having trouble getting people on board," he explained. "Parents involved aren't stepping up. We're suffering burn out." Phair stated that too few people are doing too much and others not enough. After 10 years of involvement, even he admits he hasn't done as well as he used to. The organization has 20 positions to fill, but was short by six this year. The good news is that Phair doesn't think hockey here will come to an end. "Most people in this town have passion (for the sport)," he said. To Phair, the important thing in getting new people on board is that they can bring fresh ideas. Another issue that has risen within the hockey circle is that people like to make rumblings, but don't put their names behind it. "If someone has a problem, it has to be written and have their name on it," he said. There are people who like to complain, and in his view shouldn't. "People who don't show up to the Annual General Meeting (AGM), don't have the right to complain," he said. The AGM is on May 10 at RJ's banquet room at 7 p.m. On April 5, there will be a meeting so that people can inform others of what they intend to do.
