This past weekend, the Whitney Forum and Sportex were home to the local Eddie's Atom 'A' and Johnny's Atom 'AA' Annual Tournament. Travelling to Flin Flon to take part in the tournament were The Pas, Thompson, Swan River, and Norway House. The Johnny's 'AA' Bombers' first game on Friday afternoon was against the Swan Valley Stampeders. Scoring first for the Flin Flon 'AA's was Devon Wintoneak with a hard shot from the blue line. In the second period the local boys exploded for five goals coming from Nathan Johnson (2), Brandon Eikel, Seth Fernandes and Brendon Barron. The third period saw no scoring. Final score 6-0. Edward Gardiner in net for the shutout. Saturday morning brought the 'AA's up against Thompson. Scoring first was Flin Flon, by Nathan Johnson, four minutes later Johnson scored again making it 2-0, by the end of the first period Thompson scored two goals to tie it up. The second period was to be the clincher for the Bombers with six unanswered goals. Scoring by Brendan Barron (2), Dillan McCombie, Evan Akkerman, Zach Garrett, Brandon Eikel. In the third Garrett Hatherley added on more to make the final score 9-2. Jeff Stallard in net for the Bombers. In the final game of the round robin, Flin Flon came up against The Pas Huskies. The Bombers exploded for four goals in the first, four goals in the second and one in the third to win 9-0. Scoring by Nathan Johnson (2), Brandon Eikel (2), Brandan Barron, Evan Dorion, Evan Akkerman, Drew Morin and Mike Ferguson. Jeff Stallard and Edward Gardiner shared the shutout. In the Bombers' third game of the day they once again came up against The Pas Huskies. The boys continued their scoring streak against The Pas with four in the first, four in the second and two in the third period. Scoring by Zach Garrett (3), Dillan McCombie (3), Nathan Johnson, Seth Fernandes, and Mike Ferguson. Jeff Stallard and Edward Gardiner shared the shutout. The win paved the way to the finals on Sunday against Thompson. The Johnny's Atom 'AA' Bombers came out to play for a packed house at the Sportex on Sunday. Thompson came out strong in the first and scored two unanswered goals. Thompson once again opened the scoring in the second with two goals. Flin Flon came back with two goals, one from Zach Garrett and one from Evan Akkerman to end the second. Flin Flon opened the scoring in the third with a goal by Zach Garrett making the score 4-3, but that was as close as the local squad would get as Thompson would score two more times to take the final 6-3. In net was Jeff Stallard. The Eddie's Atom 'A' Bombers shared in much of the same fate. They came out of the round robin in first place, only to lose to Thompson in the final. In the round robin, they beat The Pas 6-1, Gillam 6-0 and Norway House 18-1. They lost to Thompson 4-3 to finish the round robin, and then in the finals lost 7-2. Game stars for the Atom 'A' Bombers over the weekend were Tanner Macfie, Tavish Quinn, Boyd Langen, Tanner Suski and Cody Beck. The team is coached by Jodi Suski, Les Teneycke and Todd Quinn.
