This past weekend, six members of the North of 54 Karate Club competed in the annual Provincial Tournament in Winnipeg at St. Boniface College. It was a long day, but great experience was gained and a lot of fun was had by all. For Blair and Mikayla Pietch, Sandra Kritzer and myself it was our third consecutive year competing at the provincial tournament. While Ashton Romo compete for the second year in a row and Sensel Kel Brown competed for the first time in two years. The events that we competed in were Kata C patterns, team Kata and Kumite (free sparring). A total of seven medals were brought back to the frigid North, including silver Team Kata for Jason Forbes, Blair Pietch, Mikyala Pietch and Sandra Kritzer. Blair also received silver in Kata and Kumite. Ashton picked up a silver and a gold in Kumite. In the meantime, we have seminars to attend, guest instructors coming up from The Pas and testing in The Pas at the beginning of May. The Pas Club is hosting a Karate Camp in late August this summer, with lots of activities to keep up busy.
