The Flin Flon Bombers fell twice on the road to league-leading Battlefords North Stars over the weekend.
The North Stars won 9-1 on Friday, Feb. 26 after leading 5-0 after the first period. Battlefords scored five times on 14 power-play opportunities.
“It was kind of one of those games that happen every five years,” Bombers head coach Mike Reagan said. “Everything went in. We took a lot of penalties. … Just everything went against us that night.”
The next night Battlefords picked up a 5-2 win. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period. Reagan felt that his team played a pretty good game.
“We battled back, but we couldn’t get any second and third opportunities,” said Reagan,
adding that captain Tyson Empey was injured during the contest and Greyson Reitmeier was also banged up but played.
A positive from the weekend: top-line forward Brandon Switzer returned from injury. The 20-year-old picked up an assist and Reagan said it looked like he hadn’t missed a beat.
In other injury news, goalie Brenden Newton is making progress and hopefully will take the ice soon.
Flin Flon’s own Jeremy Ductawich of the Norman Northstars midget AAA team was called on to back up starter Zac Robidoux last week.
