A New Year’s Eve home game is among the highlights of the Flin Flon Bombers’ newly unveiled 2016-17 schedule.
The Bombers will host the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Saturday, Dec. 31 for an evening game. It will mark Flin Flon’s first Dec. 31 home game in years.
The Bombers kick off their 58-game schedule at home on Friday, Sept. 16 against the Nipawin Hawks. The following night, Saturday, Sept. 17, will find the Bombers in Nipawin.
All 12 SJHL teams will compete in the SJHL Showcase in Warman, SK from Monday, Sept. 26 to Wednesday, Sept. 28. Flin Flon’s opponents will be the Yorkton Terriers and Weyburn Red Wings.
Parents’ Weekend, where parents of the players are invited to visit Flin Flon to watch their sons hit the ice, will be Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 when the Kindersley Klippers are in town.
Flin Flon’s schedule includes three separate road trips consisting of four games in five nights: Oct. 12 to 16 in Humboldt, Estevan, Weyburn and Notre Dame; Dec. 13 to 17 in La Ronge, Battleford (twice) and Kindersley; and Feb. 1 to 5 in Melfort, Melville, Notre Dame and Estevan.
The Bombers will play two-thirds of their games on Fridays and Saturdays, and more than half of those match-ups will be on home ice.
Flin Flon will take their first crack at the defending champion Melfort Mustangs on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Whitney Forum. The next night, Wednesday, Nov. 2, the Bombers are in Melfort. The two teams will clash five additional times throughout the season.
The Bombers will conclude the season the same way they begin it – on home ice against Nipawin – on Tuesday, March 7.
To warm up for the regular season, the Bombers will play four exhibition games, the first being on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Nipawin. Nipawin will be at the Whitney Forum the following night, Sunday, Sept. 4.
The Bombers then travel to OCN to take on the MJHL’s Blizzard on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The Blizzard travel to Flin Flon for a game on Friday, Sept. 9, a week before the regular season starts.
