A handful of Flin Flonners stepped onto the podium at last week’s Manitoba Winter Games.
Athletes earned four medals in total with Team North at the games, held in Thompson from Mar. 4-10.
Flin Flon Aqua Jets swimmer Jordan Gorrell was Flin Flon’s top medalwinner, earning two bronze medals in the 100m junior boys’ backstroke and 100m junior boys’ individual medley races.
Most of Team North’s medals came in the pool, with Flin Flon’s Connor Brown getting a bronze medal as part of the 200m freestyle mixed relay team.
Several Flin Flon athletes came close to finishing on the podium. Brown narrowly missed another bronze medal in the 50m youth boys’ freestyle, finishing less than half a second behind Winnipeg Gold’s Brayden Stacey. Aqua Jet Madison Campbell had a similar experience in the junior girls’ 100m freestyle, finishing fourth. Gorrell also finished fourth in two events, while Dax Lawrence ended fourth in the 100m junior boys’ breaststroke.
Team North finished with 21 total medals, including seven gold medals. The Pas swimmer Jarvis Gibb won five of the team’s gold medals, finishing first in the 50m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 100m individual medley events.
Swimmers Cory Lane, Eli Plamondon, Brennen Sapergia Green and Savannah Thurstan each had top 10 finishes.
