Although the number of curlers has declined these past few years, the caliber of curling certainly has not. Fans who came out to watch the Safeway Zone 13 playoff at Willow Park Curling Club this past weekend were treated to some fine shot making and great games. Although the games were slated to be 10 ends, two games went on to 11 with one game, McLuckie against Watt, not only going to 11 ends but the game had to be decided by a measure. In the end, Gogal came out the A side winner and had to be defeated twice by the Fleming team of The Pas. Fleming did just that as he won the ÒspotÓ for Zone 13 and a trip to the Provincials to be played in Brandon in February. Curling on the Gogal team was Jim Quinn, Blaine Gogal,Ê Brad Leifson and David Salahub. The Victorious The Pas Team had Rob Fleming as skip, Kelly Peterson, Jeff Lacombe and Ron Ford. There were eight entries in this playoff with five teams from Flin Flon including Gogal, Grant McLuckie, Trevor Watt, Don Holmes and Don Hume. And there were three teams who came up from The Pas.
