Spending the night camping out with hundreds of people guarantees a memorable experience. At the Canadian Cancer Society's signature Relay For Life event, it also lifts the spirit and raises critical funds for the fight against cancer. 'Relay For Life is a unique event that allows cancer survivors, friends and family members to get together for 12 hours to fight back against all 200-plus cancers,' says co-chairs for the local committee, Brenda Russell and Connie Fleuty. 'It's a night you'll never forget and one that makes a tremendous impact in the fight for life.' Flin Flon is launching its 2nd Annual Relay For Life on September 7, 2013 at Creighton's Ball Diamond. It is one of 375 communities across Canada that will bring friends, neighbours and co-workers together to celebrate the lives of those who have overcome cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower individuals and the community of Flin Flon to fight back against the disease. It's Canada's largest cancer fundraiser that makes the biggest difference. 'The people of Flin Flon have always shown great support for Relay For Life,' says Russell. 'And this year promises to be a great success.' The Relay Relay For Life is an overnight, non-competitive event that involves teams of participants who take turns walking or running around a track. The event opens with the Survivors' Victory Lap, where cancer survivors walk the inspirational first lap. Luminaries are lit during a moving ceremony at dusk. Their light pays tribute to loved ones and provides motivation and encouragement to participants all night long. To register, go to relayforlife.ca.
