Kelly Carrington Staff Writer The Flin Flon Bombers picked up a big 6-1 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves last Friday, but it was a fight that really had fans talking. In the third period, Flin Flon centre Greg Wiwcharuk delivered a shocking knockout to La Ronge centre Rhett Kehoe. Fans spent the next few days talking about the quick fight as videos were posted on YouTube and Facebook the next day. Kehoe lost despite holding a significant height and weight advantage. Kehoe is listed at 5 ft. 11 in. and 185 lbs. compared to 5 ft. 6 in. and 164 lbs. for Wiwcharuk, a Snow Lake native. Friday's game at the Whitney Forum showed the Bombers in control the whole game. The performance had some fans in the stands asking where this version of the Bombers was right after Christmas. Flin Flon played hard and fast as they delivered six goals on 38 shots against La Ronge netminder Myles Hovdebo. Hometown hero Dillan McCombie was a big factor as he picked up his team's first two goals in the opening period. McCombie made it 1-0 at 15:11 with help from Brock Hounsell and then 2-0 at 18:56 with an assist going to Tanner Clark. It was a night of repeat scorers as Brett Penner earned Flin Flon's third and fourth goals. In the second period, Penner lit the lantern at 3:34 with help from Riley Storzuk and Danys Chartrand. The Ice Wolves broke Devin Buffalo's goose egg with what would be their lone goal of the night. Buffalo would face 28 shots in all. Coming in on a power play at 5:58 of the second frame, Tim Rollins made it a 3-1 game. In the third period, Penner picked up his second of the night at 2:15 with help from Landon Hiebert. Hiebert then earned a marker himself _ his ninth of the season _ with help from Clark at 10:59 on a power play. It only took another 25 seconds for the Bombers to score their final goal of the night. Following the centre face-off, Hounsell made it a 6-1 game for the Bombers with help from Wiwcharuk and Tyson Empey. Flin Flon's 15 shots in the third period was the most of either team throughout the game. The Bombers had 12 shots in the first period and 11 in the second. The Ice Wolves had six power play opportunities and capitalized on one. Flin Flon was in a similar boat as they had four chances with the man advantage and picked up one marker. Last night, after The Reminder went to press, the Bombers hosted their final game of the 2012-13 regular season. They welcomed the Melfort Mustangs in the final game before the playoffs.
