Residents have just under two weeks to join the 826 names already in the ballot box for in motionÕs Get Caught in motion. Three Nintendo Wii systems are up for grabs as the in motion committee is scanning the streets, golf courses, gyms and workplaces for active people. Fran Labarre, the Community Regional Health Developer for the NOR-MAN Regional Health Authority, says she is hoping to be able to break the 1,000 mark for names in the box. But it isnÕt just the in motion committee that can put a name in the box. ÒIÕm really pleased with the people phoning in,Ó says Labarre. ÒThere has been lots of people phoning in...actually one lady called in eight names today.Ó With residents now watching for other residents being active, Labarre is confident they will meet their goal. In the box so far, as of August 13, people have been added for walking their dog, golfing, going to the gym, walking home from work and, the most unique one yet, hoop dancing. ÒI saw them at FlintyÕs Birthday,Ó she says, ÒAnd I thought, thatÕs good physical activity.Ó So the names of the dancers were added to those of the community who are hoping to have their name drawn for one of the entertainment systems. Last year the winner rode away on a new mountain bike, but the in motion committee figured giving a system that could be used all year round would be better. And this way, adds Labarre, more than one winner benefits from the prize. ÒItÕs a good use of Federal money,Ó she adds. At certain locations around town, such as Curves and the Phantom Lake Golf Course, ballot sheets have been dropped off for people to fill out on their own. ÒItÕs easier,Ó Labarre says. ÒI know some people wonÕt fill them out.Ó Along with the gym and the greens, a number of work places in the city have been given sheets as well. This summer, though there were a few days of rain, has had good weather for being outside and being active. The Caught in motion campaign runs until September 2, with the draw being made that morning, but there is still time to get caught. The Wii Sport package that is up for grabs offers gamers tennis, bowling, golf, baseball and boxing. Labarre says the system, which comes with accessories to aid in physical activity, is a great way to get physical. ÒItÕs not tons, but itÕs a good start,Ó she says. To have names added to the ballot box, contact Fran Labarre at 687-1355 before September 2. ÒItÕs great that people are taking the responsibility of calling names in,Ó she says.
