Kelly Carrington Staff Writer There were no winter blues to be found over the weekend as community participation was at an all-time high at the Bust the Winter Blues Festival. Friday's Kinette Trivia Night was successful once again with full tables from the front to the back of the R.H. Channing Auditorium. For the kids, the Flin Flon Aqua Centre was open for a free swim. The festival saw roughly 200 people out for a pancake and sausage breakfast at the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre. Following breakfast, and while some still ate, the Nemihitowok Hoop Troupe performed formations with dancers in the three, five and 10-hoop levels. Due to the windy weather in the morning, the trapper events didn't have as much participation as expected. But as the sun warmed up and the wind cooled down, plenty of people made their way out to the Rotary Wheel for the afternoon activities. Warming up by the fire and roasting marshmallows and hot dogs, there were plenty of laughs and memories made at the Wheel. Inside, the baking event was a success with 14 entries in various categories. The activities outside were just as well-attended as just shy of 30 people participated in the Lions Club snowshoe races. The tug-of-war was successful as well. Sleigh ride The big attraction outside was the horse-drawn sleigh ride. Lead by two large Klondike horses, the sleigh brought roughly 20 people at a time from the Rotary Wheel to the end of Dadson Row and back to the starting point. The meat draw and toonie parade sales were big for the festival, as usual. Festival-goers took some time to warm up at home before heading out to the Creighton Community Soccer Field for fireworks. Then it was on to the in motion Mardi Gras Family Dance at the Creighton Community Hall. Over 100 people danced, enjoyed a snack and spent the evening together. On Sunday, the Family Fishing Derby was a big success as nearly 60 lines were dropped on Phantom Lake. Only one fish was caught as Blayne Hyska snagged a 37.5-inch pike for the win.
