The grade 5/6 French Immersion class from McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac were in Winnipeg recently to participate in the Festival du Voyageur. The trip was organized by Mme. Kroeker, and took place from February 15-18. After arriving in Winnipeg, the group spent Tuesday evening at Wheelies, where they got to try out roller/in-line skating. Wednesday was a day packed with activities. The morning was spent at Voyageur Park, where highlights included the Foret d'erable (Maple Forest) where they learned how maple syrup is formed, and a tour of Fort Gibraltar. In the afternoon the group took a tour of the Manitoba Legislative Building, where they met with our MLA Gerard Jennissen. On Wednesday night the group got to go glow bowling with their pen pals from l'Ecole RH Smith. Thursday morning was spent at the Centre Cultural Franco-Manitobain, where they got to see Trans-Akadi in concert. After lunch they went to the Manitoba Museum for a tour and presentation "Journee dans la vie d'un voyageur - a day in the life of a voyageur". "I got to go up and play a voyageur game," said Matthew Francis. "It was fun. We learned the way that the voyageur's sat in the canoe to save room. We learned the voyageur paddle dance. It was cool." On Friday morning, the class took in a tour of the St-Boniface historical museum, and also squeezed in a French Canadian Dance Workshop before hitting the road for home.
