Kelly Carrington Staff Writer What started out as a trial group at Creighton Community School has grown to be a popular gathering for girls in grades 4 through 6. Girls Group was created four years ago with inspiration coming from a Dove soap self-esteem campaign. The girls meet throughout the school year and discuss things like peer pressure, self-esteem and how to be a good friend. Once a year, the girls host a sleepover in the school's gymnasium and spend the night playing games, watching movies and making supper. A big hit at the sleepover is the fashion show. The girls all bring an outfit to walk the catwalk with _ whatever makes them feel comfortable. Some girls walked the runway in dresses, others in jeans and even pajamas. Makeup Volunteers from the community stopped in Friday night to help the girls with their makeup and hair. Along with the fashion show, where some girls walked in pairs and others took the spotlight for themselves, the Girls Group had a movie night with breakfast to follow in the morning. In total, 26 girls were at the sleepover on Friday night. Though the ages differed for some of the girls, there was plenty of support evident in the gymnasium. Comments like 'you look great' and 'wow!' could be heard all night as the girls demonstrated the level of respect they have learned in Girls Group.
